A stellar language in motion

In 2025, ADVERSA began a new international chapter in its collaboration with DJEFF through ODYSSEY, developing a visual language designed to accompany the artist's performances and the wider creative world surrounding the project as it travelled internationally.

Built around the idea of a stellar incursion, ODYSSEY reflects DJEFF's movement towards new musical territories. The visual work was designed to grow alongside the project. Celestial bodies, digital matter and technological forms became recurring elements, giving the music a visual counterpart rooted in movement and discovery.

Since then, the work created for ODYSSEY has travelled with DJEFF through more than twelve countries, reaching cities including New York, Paris, Lausanne, Amsterdam, and London.

The title came before that international journey. DJEFF released the track Odyssey in 2024 as an exploration beyond conventional electronic structures, drawing on cinematic atmospheres and analogue sound. Its sense of travel and experimentation became the starting point for the visual collaboration. The odyssey became a way of moving through unfamiliar territory, both musically and visually.

DJEFF's own career gives that idea a clear context. Born in Lisbon to an Angolan mother and Cape Verdean father, he moved to Luanda in 2008 after studying Graphic Arts and Design. There, he began shaping a practice that connected African musical roots with house and electronic music.

His early productions received support from artists including Louie Vega, Joe Claussell and Black Coffee. In 2011, he founded Kazukuta Records, widely recognised as the first electronic music label to emerge from Angola, creating a platform for his own releases and for other African artists. His career has since taken him through international tours, albums and performances at venues such as Fabric in London, Watergate in Berlin and Rex Club in Paris.

Through ODYSSEY, that movement acquired its own visual identity. What began as a collaboration around a musical project has since travelled with DJEFF across continents, stages and audiences.
