Awarded Best in Europe at the Open House Europe's annual summit
Cycles, created by ADVERSA's António Bernardes de Sá and Tiago Bastos Nunes, was selected as one of the three outstanding Visual Stories in Europe by the international Open House Europe network, following its presentation at the network's third Annual Summit in Athens.
Originally developed through Open House Lisboa, organised by the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Cycles uses three-dimensional image-making to observe Lisbon as a city continuously moving between construction and memory. Architectural spaces are transformed into almost model-like fragments: a Lisbon seen simultaneously as existing city, archive and possible future.
The work responded to Open House Europe's 2025 theme, Future Heritage. From submissions originating across its European partner festivals, three works were ultimately distinguished by the network; Cycles represented Open House Lisboa and Portugal among them.
Open House Europe is a collaborative project connecting fifteen European cultural organisations around a shared objective: making architecture more accessible to the public and using it as a means of discussing wider social and environmental questions. Coordinated by Architektūros fondas and co-funded by the European Union, the network connected Open House programmes from Lisbon to Athens, Barcelona, Dublin, Milan, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, Tallinn, Vilnius and other European cities.
Visual Stories forms its artistic strand. Each year, participants are invited to respond to a common architectural theme through photography, film, drawing and other visual forms. Selected works enter a travelling European exhibition and are published both online and in print.
