On September 2024, ADVERSA and Portuguese fashion designer ISZA opened SIMULACRA at Canal180 in Porto, with the support of Lisboa Fashion Week
The project brought fashion and visual art into the same space through a question that already ran through both practices. As technology becomes more closely involved in the ways bodies and identities are constructed, what still feels distinctly human?
ISZA's Shades of Doubt collection was presented in dialogue with ADVERSA's installation OASIS. Garments entered the installation as part of the space itself, moving away from the format of a conventional runway presentation. ModaLisboa described SIMULACRA as a collective platform for thinking about materiality, humanity and technology.
The connection suited ISZA's practice closely. Ana Luísa Marinho, working under the name ISZA, emerged through ModaLisboa's Sangue Novo competition and received the ModaLisboa x IED Istituto Europeo di Design Award in 2024, which included a full scholarship for postgraduate study at IED Florence.
Her work combines fashion construction with a dystopian technological vocabulary. 3D printing plays a major role in the process, producing structures that sit directly on and around the body. Within SIMULACRA, those digitally produced forms appeared alongside the handmade work of Íris Ossos. A photographic exhibition by Jorge Pinheiro and images previously published by Vogue Portugal extended the project into photography and editorial work.
SIMULACRA sat between installation and fashion presentation, with each practice changing how the other was understood.
