In July 2026, BIOGRAF received the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic, recognising the festival's merit in mobilising civic participation through culture

The distinction accompanied the second edition of the International Film & Moving Arts Festival, held in Vila Nova de Cerveira from August 21 to 29 under the theme Construir Pontes, Edificar IdeiasBuilding Bridges, Constructing Ideas. Over nine days, BIOGRAF brought 75 films from 40 countries to Cerveira alongside exhibitions, conversations, educational activities and encounters with artists, filmmakers and other cultural practitioners.

Architecture and territory formed the central thread of the 2026 programme. The Official Selection was accompanied by dedicated programmes on architecture, transborder relations with Spain, animation, transgressive cinema, Stanley Kubrick and Pedro Costa, alongside an international academic film programme. The result was conceived less as a succession of screenings than as a temporary meeting point between forms of cinema, generations, disciplines and audiences.

The relationship with the XXIV Cerveira International Art Biennial became one of the defining components of the season. Before the main festival, BIOGRAF organised the Biennial's dedicated film programme from August 7 to 9; during the festival itself, the collaboration continued through performances and other encounters across Vila Nova de Cerveira. This connection gained particular significance with the visit of the President of the Portuguese Republic to the Biennial during the days of the festival.
