The work will be presented in Angola within the Cultural Centre, at the Embassy of Portugal in Angola. The anniversary forms part of a year-long programme celebrating three decades of the institution's cultural activity in the city.

Created by ADVERSA, with choreographic direction by Amélia Caldas and developed in collaboration with the Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Angola, Umbilical is a performative installation built around a simple physical principle: two bodies cannot occupy the same space.

From this principle of impenetrability, the work constructs a shifting image of conflict. Performers connected through ropes move around and compete for a shared central territory, each movement producing consequences elsewhere in the structure. Rather than representing war through a literal narrative, Umbilical uses bodies, tension, space and interdependence to examine the interests and forces that sustain it. The audience surrounds the performers and enters the spatial logic of the piece, becoming another presence within an unstable network in which individual actions continuously affect the collective.
